I believe it takes a unique and extreme form of courage to create. When I stand beside something I've created, or when I create live through performance, to me it's like peeling off my skin and asking the world to look. It's exposing, terrifying and personal, but at the same time, electrifying, liberating and deeply rewarding. In my opinion, art is meant to be shared. It's an expression of the artist's soul, a symbol of their uniqueness, their legacy.
For me, art is the product of creativity, passion and courage.

So dance in the circus of your imagination and dare to have vision. Then muster the courage and passion to follow through and create.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Interior Design is a short film created by Ballantyne in the final year of her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Inspired by the films of Douglas Sirk, Interior Design explores the feeling of quiet desperation and the need to escape the numbness felt when living inauthentically. The period setting of the film is a metaphor for a life lived entirely in ideals - a perfectly crafted veneer, that is disconnected and exhausting to uphold. It's spoken primarily in Spanish to further articulate the layers of the story and to create, through the subtitles, yet another surface to look past to uncover truth, connection and meaning.
The story follows Kitty and her inevitable unravelling as she breaks free from expectations, both her own and those of the world around her.

Fine Art

Ballantyne completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. She works primarily with oil paints but also enjoys exploring drawing mediums, collage, and experimenting with digital art.
